Ngawa

Buddhist stupa outside the town of Aba

This beautiful stupa is located outside the town of Aba (in Tibetan Ngawa), in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in the north of Sichuan District.

A stupa is a shrine were a famous Buddhist monk is buried.

The area is located on the Tibetan Plateau at an elevation of 3,200 meters. Aba county has 70,000 inhabitants, about 8,000 of them are Tibetan monks.

There are many monasteries in the area. In the south are mainly grasslands and forested valleys.
